How can you NOT love The Golden Girls.  I know I am slightly (ok ok, very) obsessed with Sophia, Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche. Reference Exhibit A above. I have all seven seasons on DVD if anyone would like to borrow.

Exhibit B: I recently went to LA and stalked, I mean…stumbled upon, THE original house that inspired the series.Laura GG

But back to reality – you may be wondering “what dating and relationship lessons are from The Golden Girls?!”  Oh, trust me.  This show, that premiered over 30 years ago about four retired ladies in Miami, provides valuable life lessons that still ring true today.

Here are 10 Dating and Relationship Lessons from ‘The Golden Girls‘:

My mother always used to say: “The older you get, the better you get, unless you’re a banana.” – Rose

10. It is true, the older I get…the more comfortable and confident I am in myself.  I accept being single as perhaps my destiny and don’t need to waste time chasing after guys.

Blanche: “I treat my body like a temple.”
Sophia: “Yeah, open to everyone, day or night.”

9. Women are sexual creatures.  Sex is power.

Rose: “Sophia, why are you in such a bad mood?”
Sophia: “Excuse me Rose, but I haven’t had sex in fifteen years and its starting to get on my nerves.”

8. See #9 above.

“There is a fine line between having a good time and being a wanton slut. I know. My toe has been on that line.” – Blanche

7. Every woman should know how to gracefully, seductively, and coyly touch the that line between fun/flirtatious and slutty Ms. Slutterson working at Whores-R-Us.

“Why don’t I just wear a sign that says, ‘Too Ugly To Live’?”- Dorothy [after Blanche and Rose meanly point out the flaws in her body]

6. Every once in a while, a single gal may think this. It’s one thing for her (me) to think it on my own. It is NOT OK to think this in response to a man’s comments.

“When a 22-year-old girl marries a man who’s 80, chances are she is not after his body.” – Dorothy

5. Every gal has her own agenda/turn-ons/goals.

“Dr. Kagan? Hubba hubba zing zing, baby, he’s got everything.” – Rose

4. Who doesn’t have a crush? That untouchable, out-of-your-league, dreamy crush.

Blanche: “Sophia, by placing this pearl necklace between my bosoms, does it make me look like I’m a sex-starved slut who is in need of a man to bed?”
Sophia: “Yes.”
Blanche: “Good, then pearl it is.”

3. Accessories make the outfit. Accessories are a necessity.

Dorothy: “Is that all you care about? Money and applause?”
Blanche: “And sex. For which I usually *get* applause.”

2. It’s OK for a woman to want the 3 R’s → Riches, rewards, and riveting sex.

“I swear with God as my witness, I will never pick up another man!… in a library… on a Saturday… unless he’s cute… and drives a nice car… Amen” – Blanche

1. Almost everyone prays.  As a single woman, I pray for a decent man!

At the end of the day, although single (in I-don’t-have-a-boyfriend), I do remember…
