5 Chicago Events To Finish Out Summer
Back-to-school does not mean you have to pack up your beach gear and call it a day on summer fun. In our book, until the boots come out, it’s still game on. From art to jazz to booze and bacon, fill your remaining weekends up with these Chicagoland area activities.
Shaw’s Oyster Fest
Start happy hour early by washing down freshly shucked oysters with beer and St. Lucia at the 26th annual Shaw’s Oyster Fest in River North. Stick around for the after party at Chicago Oyster Bar where, you guess it, more oysters.

Ravenswood Artwalk
Like art? Of course you do. Grab your pocketbook and head up north to the Ravenswood Artwalk to peruse the work of more than 300 artists from local studios on display. There will also be music, food trucks, craft beer tents and a new children’s corner of activities to make sure you don’t leave uninspired.
When: September 19 -20, 11:00 am — 6:00 pm

Chicago Magazine Culture Festival
This city if full of cultural things to do and see. If you’ve let it slip you by this summer, get a concentrated dose at this curated event featuring panel discussions from architects Jeanne Gang, Stanley Tigerman, and artist Amanda Williams, insights from the cast behind Steppenwolf and even hear Gillian Flynn read from her book Gone Girl — the one where Doogie Howser got shanked in the movie – sorry, spoiler, but he got shanked, among others.

Hyde Park Jazz Festival
Thirty-four bands and artists on 14 stages will be blowing brass and tapping keys at the 9th annual festival in Hyde Park. Performances take place at various stages across the area throughout the weekend so check the schedule for a show that captures your eye. End it all at The Promontory for a bite and a midnight show. Bonus points: it’s free, but you can always donate.
When: September 26 – 27, 1:00 pm-Midnight (Sat); 1:00 pm-8:00 pm (Sun)

Bacon and Beer Classic
If you missed BaconFest, this sister event should have you feeling no regrets and high on nitrates. Taste bacon and beer at Solider Field where you’re likely to make many new friends because bacon + beer = instafriends. Need we say more?
